How Children Learn
by Stephen Lau
Children's learning takes place under certain optimum conditions, including the following:
· Children’s constructive involvement: the learners have to be actively engaged in certain activities that initiate the learning process.
· Social participation: the learners have to be physically present in social activities involving other children such that there is an opportunity for them to observe and to imitate how others interact and respond.
· Meaningful activities: the learners have to be able to relate new information to prior knowledge; the learners have to understand, remember, and apply the new information to solve future problems.
· Strong motivation: the learners have to be shown the real everyday life application of the new information just acquired in order for them to retain and remember such information for future application.
Tips on children learning
Children thrive on doing what best works for them. It is important to acknowledge and develop individual differences in the learning process.
Remember, real learning takes time: do not rush to a void frustration, detrimental to the learning process.
Make learning fun time, such as playing Sudoku to develop their logic and thinking skills.
Introduce math skils to your child as early as possible. Use Speed Math to teach your child all the math skills in 21 days.
